I have known for 2 years that there is a sushi bar that people are raving over, and we finally decided to try it out. It is in a suburban area called Chestnut Hill which is about a 25 minute ride on the Greenline T. On its wall were many "Best of..." certificates given by various gourmet magazines, proving their high reviews. It is a very tiny restaurant...only one table and about 10 seats at the counter. I have heard that sometimes it takes more than an hour to get seated if crowded, but luckily it took no time for us to get our seats at the counter, probably because we got there before 5pm.
On my right, 2 women. The one seated further away seemed incredibly relaxed, leaning over the counter, resting her head on her hand, and giving a speech about something loudly. No chance for the other woman next to me to even think about inserting a word. On the left in front of Dr.A, who sat at the corner, were 3 boys. Literally they all looked like 15-16 years old. This is not a cheap restaurant....how in the h.. I forced myself to avert my glance and looked into the menu.
There were plenty of choices, including dishes we don't see so often such as Foie Gras sushi and Lobster tempura sushi. After a while we choose these:
Hamachi Cone (basically a roll)
Salmon Sashimi with Yuzu Honey
Tokyo Style Soft Shell Crab Roll
I do not know why they call this Tokyo style, maybe because of the sweet sauce, but it was tasty nonetheless. The white wrapping is a very thinly sliced daikon: a kind of radish.
Super Deluxe Sushi Platter
Oh my god, at end the lady was still talking and her companion still hadn't spoken. The boys had left, and a group of 6 or so came to the nearby table. One of them with a British accent started giving his theories about good sushi and sushi bars loudly and without a pause. ...Is he seriously teaching his friends what sushi is, in front of 4 sushi chefs? ...I wish, at the very least, that he could pronounce "edamame" correctly.
Anyway the sushi was great. I thought they could chill the sushi a bit more, but we are definitely going back. On the return trip, we enjoyed walking and took some pictures of the Chustnut Hill T station.
